Environmental Sciences

The Environmental Sciences program at UConn provides a strong scientific foundation for understanding the complex environmental systems that shape our world. Through this cross-college major, students combine classroom learning with laboratory and field experiences to study topics such as climate change, ecosystem dynamics, water resources, and environmental processes. The program prepares graduates for careers and graduate study in environmental research, consulting, natural resource management, and environmental protection.

Advising is a cornerstone of the UConn experience. In the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources, our students benefit from a close, collaborative community where each student works closely with a faculty advisor in their major. Ratcliffe Hicks students pursuing the two-year degree are encouraged to connect with advisors in CAHNR’s Office of Academic Programs for tailored support and academic planning.

Student projects in Environmental Sciences give students the opportunity to investigate complex environmental challenges through fieldwork, laboratory research, and data analysis. Students may study water quality, ecosystem dynamics, climate impacts, environmental chemistry, or ecological processes while working alongside faculty mentors. These experiences build strong scientific and analytical skills while contributing to research that advances environmental understanding and solutions.
